Exhibition 'Siberia in Antiquity'
About exhibition
The exhibition is intended not merely to show the chronological development of individual peoples of Siberia, but to provide a comprehensive picture of life across whole regions: pastoral nomads in southern Siberia, farmers in the valleys of the Ob and Yenisei, hunters and fishermen in the taiga zones, and reindeer herders in the Far North. In the 'Hunters and Fishermen' hall (3rd millennium BC – early 20th century) you can see weapons, traps and snares, and items related to gathering and fishing. In the 'Farmers and Livestock Breeders' hall (2nd millennium BC – 20th century) agricultural tools, equipment for bronze casting and pottery production, tools for weaving and plaiting, and women's clothing are displayed. Among the exhibits in the 'Pastoral Nomads' hall (4th millennium BC – 20th century) are weapons and ammunition, yurt interior items, nomadic kitchen, household and ritual vessels, and a horse burial. The 'Reindeer Herders' hall (19th–20th centuries) displays clothing as well as jewelry of the Nenets, Nganasans and Evenks. Exhibits from the museum's shamanic collection are also presented here.
