The permanent exhibition of the Novokuznetsk Local History Museum covers the history of the Kuznetsk land from ancient times to the present. It presents the museum's main rarities: jewelry of the Fomin culture and tools of the southern Shors; antique photographs of notable Kuznetsk residents and accurate models of buildings from past centuries; as well as paintings, lithographs, and documents that capture the most important stages in the development of the town and the region. Visitors will learn where Fyodor Dostoyevsky lived in Kuznetsk and what happened to the city's first movie theater, which animal was depicted on the first city seal, and how the city defended Russia against southern Siberian nomads. The Soviet period of the city's development is represented in the exhibition beginning with the Kuznetskstroy era: the history of the design and construction of the Kuznetsk Metallurgical Combine (KMC) in 1929–1932, and the birth and rapid development of the city of Novokuznetsk–Stalinsk in the 1930s. Museum visitors have a unique opportunity to visit the holographic theater to see and hear Vladimir Mayakovsky — the author of the city's most famous poem, "Khrenov's Tale about Kuznetskstroy and the People of Kuznetsk." Part of the exhibition, "The City during the Great Patriotic War," acquaints visitors with life in the city during wartime and tells of the combat feats of soldiers from Novokuznetsk.
