Exhibition of the I. D. Sytin Apartment Museum
About exhibition
The idea of creating a museum in the apartment where I. D. Sytin spent the last six years of his life belonged to his children Dmitry, Anna and Olga. Over many years they gradually collected samples of printed material published by the I. D. Sytin Publishing Partnership. In 1986 the apartment and its collection were transferred to the All-Union Society of Book Lovers, and in 1989 a museum was opened, whose exhibition includes a unique collection of artifacts of material culture and valuable documents from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The permanent exhibition consists of four halls that reveal the creative and life path of the publisher. Visitors can see unique 19th-century lubok prints, pre-revolutionary calendars, lithographs, newspapers, early editions of works by Russian classics, and many other types of printed material issued by the I. D. Sytin Publishing Partnership. The memorial rooms tell the story of I. D. Sytin and his family. There you will find original photographs and portraits of the Sytin family, documents, personal letters, and household items.
