Exhibition 'The History of the Yaroslavl Region'
About exhibition
The visit begins with a unique archaeological collection. The items were discovered during the largest excavations in Yaroslavl's history, carried out in the oldest part of the city. Numerous finds of craftsmen's tools and finished products (blacksmiths, jewelers, woodcarvers, bone carvers, leatherworkers) provide an idea of Yaroslavl's crafts of that time. Authentic weapons, cheshuyka coins struck at the Yaroslavl mint, and precious church donations of the newly elected tsar Mikhail Romanov tell of the Time of Troubles, when Yaroslavl became the temporary capital of the Russian state for four months. The second half of the 17th century was a period of the greatest economic, political, and cultural flourishing of Yaroslavl. This period is represented by hoards of thousands of silver cheshuyka coins, rare foreign fabrics, and models of the Yaroslavl churches built at that time.
