Exhibition of the Viktor Vasnetsov House Museum
About exhibition
In 1894 the famous Russian painter Viktor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov (1848–1926) built a large two-story log terem-style mansion in Moscow in the Neo-Russian style. He was not only the author of the architectural design but also planned the interior décor. The ground floor of the house was intended for the family's private life: it housed bedrooms, a children's room and a classroom, a dining room and a living room. Today you can hear the chime of an 18th‑century antique clock, see an enchanting sideboard carved to Viktor Mikhailovich's designs by his younger brother Arkady Mikhailovich, and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a genuine Russian home. The second floor was given over to a studio where the artist worked on many well-known works. Today a true treasure is kept here—the series of paintings "The Poem of Seven Tales", which Viktor Mikhailovich worked on during the last twenty-five years of his life. Created against the backdrop of escalating wars and revolutions, they hold Vasnetsov's reflections on good and evil, truth and love.
