The Winter Palace of Peter I
About museum
In 1992 the State Hermitage opened to the public the architectural and memorial complex The Winter Palace of Peter I, located on the ground/basement floor of the Hermitage Theatre building. It was an important contribution to the preservation and musealization of Saint Petersburg's historic environment. The Winter Palace was the official residence of Peter I and represents a unique architectural and memorial monument of the first quarter of the 18th century. A memorial exhibition dedicated to Peter the Great and his era was created in the palace rooms. Here you can also see original items that belonged to the emperor and a wax figure — a posthumous sculptural portrait of Peter I. The Winter Palace of Peter I is an irreplaceable historical monument that has survived to the present day.
