About museum
Smolny Exhibition Hall has become a place for everyone interested in culture, history and art.
The Exhibition Hall of the Government of the Leningrad Region 'Smolny' is located in the building of the former Meshchansky School (later the Alexandrovsky Institute). The 300-square-meter hall was converted from a choir space, and the design conceived by architect Felten in 1765 has been completely preserved. It is divided by a colonnade into two equal naves; the columns are decorated with pilasters, and candelabras are arranged around the perimeter of the hall. The vaulted ceilings are adorned with substantial chain chandeliers. Exhibitions dedicated to the culture and everyday life of the peoples of the Leningrad Region, the history of towns, castles, fortresses, estates and notable people are presented here. Works by contemporary masters are also on display. Interregional and international projects, as well as various seminars, meetings, conferences and round tables, take place here. The 'Smolny' Exhibition Hall has become a popular place for everyone interested in culture, history and art.
