About museum
\r\nThe Volgograd Museum of Fine Arts named after I. I. Mashkov is the only art museum in Volgograd, founded in 1960 and opened to visitors in 1963. More than 2,000 exhibits were transferred to the museum from the State Hermitage, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Historical Museum and other central museums. Further acquisitions were made through purchases, gifts, and transfers from the funds of the Ministry of Culture of the RSFSR and the USSR, the Union of Artists of the RSFSR, and others. The museum received the private collection of N. A. Arning-Zaitseva, as well as a representative collection of contemporary artists, including those from Volgograd. In 2010 the museum was given the name of I. I. Mashkov. For participation in the competition "A Changing Museum in a Changing World" the museum received awards for the projects "Leonardo Lessons" (2005) and "The Museum in Your Life" (2008).
