Tourist Center "Mountain Pharmacy"
About museum
"Mountain Pharmacy" is a magnificent monument of 18th-century history and architecture, the first brick building in Barnaul. During the operation of Akinfiy Demidov's mining factories, the first pharmacy in the Altai and one of the first in Siberia was opened here. Famous travelers and explorers lived and worked here. The building was recently restored and converted into a tourist center. Visitors can see a conceptual museum of pharmacy, learn about products from Altai enterprises, and sample dishes of Siberian cuisine. The exhibition consists of two sections. The first tells the story of the establishment of a pharmacy in the Altai, the history of the city of Barnaul, and the region's first medical practitioners. The second examines the development of pharmacy and pharmaceutical practice in the second half of the 19th century. A pharmacy laboratory has been recreated here, where plants were ground, sifted, dried, pressed, and used to produce infusions and extracts. The first remedies made from Altai herbs were prepared at the Mountain Pharmacy.
