Sulevkent Local History Museum
About museum
The Sulevkent Museum presents the history of the ancient ceramics craft of the Dakhadaevsky District of Dagestan. In 1944 the villagers were forced to relocate to Chechnya, and later, in 1957, they resettled in Khasavyurt. Sulevkent ceramics are functional and decorative; their decoration is based on dark-red clay, S-shaped motifs, wavy and straight lines, scrolls, and comma-shaped brushstrokes. The museum exhibits old Sulevkent items from the 8th–20th centuries, as well as contemporary ceramic ware. The ethnographic section displays household items of the Sulevkent people and costume ensembles. The museum also offers workshops on producing traditional Sulevkent ceramics, and the museum's collections comprise more than 700 exhibits. Opened in 2014, the Sulevkent Local History Museum is a branch of the National Museum of Dagestan named after A. Taho-Godi.
