About museum
The Saratov State Art Museum named after A. N. Radishchev is the oldest museum in Russia and the first public museum in the provinces. It was opened on June 29, 1885 thanks to the marine painter A. P. Bogolyubov, who donated his collection of artworks to the city. The museum's collection includes about 34,000 works from various national schools of European art. The halls display paintings by Giorgio Vasari and Jacopo Bassano, 17th-century landscapes and genre scenes by Pieter van Noort, Matthias Stomer, David Teniers the Younger, as well as works by Camille Corot, Charles Daubigny and Adolphe Monticelli. In addition, the museum presents Dutch tapestries, Saxon and Sèvres porcelain, furniture, glass and bronze. The museum's library and archive contain unique manuscripts, documentary and photographic materials, as well as antique and modern editions.
