In 1898 in the city of Rostov a mansion of Petrov (Dombrovsky Mansion) was built by the notable architect N. A. Doroshenko. Before the Revolution it belonged to the lawyer of the Vladikavkaz Railway Administration A. A. Petrov. The building has the status of a cultural heritage site of regional significance. Since 1959 the Rostov Regional Museum of Fine Arts has been located here. Its collection includes works of Russian art from the 16th–20th centuries, Old Russian painting of the Moscow School, northern icons of the 17th–19th centuries, portraits of "statesmen", landscape canvases by masters of the 18th and the first half of the 19th centuries. The museum also displays works by I. N. Kramskoy, I. E. Repin, K. E. Makovsky and other Peredvizhniki (Wanderers) artists of various genres. Also on view are works by artists of the late 19th — early 20th centuries, as well as graphics of the Silver Age. The museum's collection also includes sculptures: "Marble Bust of Golitsyn" by Kavacheppi, "Portrait of A. A. Kraevsky" by M. Antokolsky, and genre compositions by E. Lansere.
