Purovsky District Historical and Local History Museum - branch, Khanymey settlement
About museum
Today the Khanymey Museum is a respected representative of museum culture in the Purovsky District. The history of the Khanymey Museum begins on December 6, 1999, when the head of the administration of the Khanymey settlement signed an order to establish a 'Museology' department. At the time of the museum's opening, its collections did not contain a single item. Subsequently, the collections were formed during the museum director's expeditions to the encampments of the indigenous inhabitants. In April 2000 the first expedition was carried out to the trading post of the Sugmuto-Pyakutin community, and in August–September of the same year to the 'Bolshoye Stoybishche' (Great Encampment) of the Forest Nenets of the Pyako-Purovskaya community. This material became the basis for the museum's permanent exhibitions. The museum collection is constantly supplemented thanks to gifts from private individuals, organizations, and by purchasing items of museum significance. Today the Khanymey Museum is a respected representative of museum culture in the Purovsky District and attracts many visitors.
