Fire-Technical Exhibition named after B. I. Konchaev
About museum
Since June 29, 1957, the B. I. Konchaev Fire-Technical Exhibition has been located on Bolshoy Prospect of Vasilievsky Island in an old towered building. It presents the history of the city's fire service and the feats of its 'fighters of the fire front.' On display are models of a horse-drawn fire wagon, a watchtower (kalancha), mechanical ladders, as well as a uniformed watchman with a rakishly curled mustache and other exhibits. In the brand-major's hall the office of the city's fire chief at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries is recreated, and in the historic fire equipment hall one can see vehicles from the late 1920s–early 1930s. In addition, a separate exhibition is devoted to the heroism of firefighters during the Great Patriotic War, and in the 'Fire Equipment: 20th Century' hall there is a collection of fire service vehicles from the late 1930s to the 1970s. The exhibition also covers causes of fires, measures for their prevention, and firefighting equipment.
