K.G. Sakharov Park Complex of the History of Technology
About museum
The idea to create the Technical Museum belonged to Konstantin Grigoryevich Sakharov, Vice President of OAO AvtoVAZ. He envisioned the museum not only as a collection of exhibits showcasing the machinery and technologies of 20th-century Soviet industry, but also as a place for entertainment with simulators and attractions, as well as for family recreation amid well-maintained greenery. The Technical Museum's design project was created by Mark Vasilievich Demidovtsev, with contributions from Sergey Petrovich Prokhorov. On September 7, 2001, the Technical Museum of OAO AvtoVAZ was opened. On the site of a former construction-waste dump more than 450 exhibits of equipment were installed: aviation, space, engineering, railway, automotive, armored, agricultural, missile, as well as artillery pieces and weapon systems of the Russian Navy. A particularly notable part of the collection was the Soviet Project 641B "SOM" diesel-electric submarine B-307. In September 2014 the AvtoVAZ Technical Museum was renamed the Park Complex of the History of Technology.
