Armoury Chamber

The Armoury Chamber is a treasury museum located in the Grand Kremlin Palace. It was built in 1851 by the architect Konstantin Thon. It houses precious items received as gifts or produced in the Kremlin workshops, as well as state regalia, ceremonial tsarist attire, a coronation dress, the vestments of hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church, gold and silver pieces by Russian craftsmen, Western European artistic silver, outstanding examples of arms craftsmanship, carriages and horse harnesses. The museum displays more than 4,000 objects of decorative and applied art from Russia, Europe and the East, dating from the 4th century to the early 20th century. The exceptionally high artistic quality and the historical and cultural value of these items have brought the Armoury Chamber of the Moscow Kremlin worldwide renown. Photography and video recording in the Armoury Chamber are prohibited in order to preserve the exhibits.
