Nizhneturinsk Local History Museum
About museum
Officially opened on October 31, 1965. Initially it had the status of a people's museum; in 1974 it acquired state status as part of the regional association of museums. Since 2012 it has been part of the Nevyansk State Historical and Architectural Museum. Until 2008 it occupied unsuitable premises on the ground floor of a residential building constructed in the late 1940s. The exhibition is currently housed in a 19th-century architectural monument — the former administration building of the Nizhneturinsk Ironworks. The building was constructed from a design by one of the leading representatives of the Ural school of industrial architecture of the first half of the 19th century, architect Alexander Zinovevich Komarov. The core of the museum's collections comprises items related to the history of the founding, development, and influence on the settlement of the territory by the Nizhneturinsk State Ironworks, and museum objects reflecting the history of the Nikolaevsky correctional detention unit, which was located in the workshops of the former Nikolaevsky arms factory. The collection also widely represents prospecting implements, reflecting the history of the 1824 discovery of gold-platinum deposits in the valleys of the Is and Vya rivers.
