The Pustozersk Museum is an integral part of the cultural heritage of the Pustozersk region. It was established in 1991 by a resolution of the Council of Ministers to preserve and study archaeological and historical monuments. In 1993 the museum moved into the two-story wooden Shevelev house. Today the territory of the museum-reserve covers 626.4 hectares. The museum presents permanent exhibitions "Northern House: Its Appearance and Soul" and "From the Depths of Pustozersk." The museum conducts exhibitions, lectures, guided tours, scientific activities, the Large and Small Avvakumov Readings, archaeological expeditions, volunteer camps, and clubs for elderly people. The museum aims to popularize the history and culture of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug and help people understand and embrace it.
