Petrovskoye Estate Museum
About museum
Petrovskoye is the ancestral estate of the Hannibal family, ancestors of A. S. Pushkin, located in the poet's native region and linked to the history of his family and the Russian state. The lands were granted by Empress Elizabeth in 1742 to the poet's great-grandfather, Abram Petrovich Hannibal. In 1782 it belonged to Pyotr Abramovich Hannibal — a cousin of Pushkin's grandfather. At that time the manor house was built and a park was created. The poet visited Petrovskoye many times and was interested in the history of his family and of Russia. In 1977 the manor museum was opened, including the 'house of Pyotr Abramovich and Veniamin Petrovich Hannibal' and a memorial park with a grotto-pavilion. In 1999–2000 restoration and reconstruction work was carried out on the Petrovskoye manor museum, and the 'house-museum of Abram Petrovich Hannibal' was also restored. Petrovskoye continues to attract poets and enthusiasts of Russian history and culture.
