Estate museum of urban life «Simbirsk of the late 19th — early 20th centuries»
About museum
Life in a provincial Russian town at the end of the 19th — beginning of the 20th century has receded into the distant past, and many habits and customs have lost their meaning. In this museum of urban life one can experience the atmosphere of a typical middle-class home, with a collection of Russian porcelain, lighting fixtures, and furniture. Various projects are held here, for example “Several Ways to Feel Time,” which includes modern acoustic and lighting equipment with software control. It helps activate people's senses and emotions and draws attention to the museum. There is also an antique telephone which, when lifted, provides the latest news of the town. The museum also features another exhibition hall that recreates the atmosphere of a collector’s study from the late 19th — early 20th century. Thus, the museum allows visitors to learn about townspeople's everyday life and the subdued domestic lighting characteristic of that period.
