Museum-Estate 'Botik of Peter the Great'

At present the Museum-Estate 'Botik of Peter the Great' is one of Russia's most important historical monuments. In 1802 Governor Ivan Mikhailovich Dolgorukov visited the site where Peter I studied seamanship. He decided to build a structure to house the botik. In 1803 the first provincial museum in Russia opened. In 1842 a stone watchman's lodge was built, and in 1847 the Vladimir nobility purchased the Veskovo estate. In 1853 the 'White Palace' was constructed. In 1913 Nicholas II visited the museum-estate. Since 1919 it has been a branch of the Pereslavl museum. New exhibitions were opened in 1984. The museum offers visitors a rich collection of items of Russian history.
