Znamenka Village Museum
About museum
In 1989, at the initiative of local historian Vladimir Ivanov, a history and local lore museum was opened in the village; it contains four halls. The first presents a 'peasant's izba' where visitors can see a straw depiction of the local church, colorful embroidered towels (rushnyky), bast shoes (lapti) and an old women's outfit, as well as a Tula samovar with eight medals. The second hall contains the study of writer Filipp Nasedkin and a display of photographs of villagers who took part in World War I, including a photograph of Nikolai Ivanov, the only resident of Znamenka awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. The third hall exhibits an anti-tank rifle, rifles, submachine guns, military uniforms, and a panel dedicated to the doctors of Znamenka Hospital who, risking their lives, saved about one hundred Soviet soldiers. The fourth hall presents the labor exploits of Znamenka residents and an exhibition dedicated to the museum's organizer — Vladimir Ivanov.
