Museum of Russian and Contemporary Art, Krapivna
About museum
In the house of merchant Pryanchikov, one of the most remarkable buildings of Krapivna's merchant class, a museum has opened showcasing works by Russian artists of the 19th and 20th centuries: Shishkin, Savrasov, Aivazovsky, Levitan and others. The contemporary art hall offers visitors canvases by Konchalovsky and his associates from the "Jack of Diamonds" circle: Rozhdestvensky and Osmerkin. The exhibition is currently being supplemented by Marc Chagall's painting "At the Halt" and works by Porfiry Krylov, as well as artworks featuring motifs from Yasnaya Polyana. The museum also displays furniture, porcelain, art glass and other works of art taken from the collection of the Tula Museum of Fine Arts. On the mezzanine a merchant's drawing room has been recreated, and in another room hang old photographs of the Pryanchikov family and documents that allow visitors to learn about life and the layout of the house before the Revolution. Visitors can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of merchant life and see works by famous Russian artists.
