Museum of Nature
About museum
Located in the wing of the former house of merchant G. V. Usov, the Museum of Nature introduces visitors to the region's animal and plant life through the light-and-sound exhibition 'The Russian North. Seasons.' In the panoramic showcase you can see a lynx, a raccoon dog, forest waders — woodcocks, and a family of seven bears created by master N. K. Nazymov. The 'Living Past of the Earth' exhibition presents paleontological finds and discoveries made in the vicinity of Veliky Ustyug: teeth, dermal bone plates, ribs of pareiasaurs, casts of skulls of Permian reptiles, as well as bones of Ice Age animals. Here visitors can assemble a model skeleton of a pareiasaur. The 'Master of the Taiga' hall features the brown bear, acquaints visitors with its appearance and habits, and also offers the opportunity to 'visit' three bears. The 'Russian Birch' exhibition tells about the birch and its significance for nature and people.
