Museum of Political Exile
About museum
The Museum of Political Exile is a monument of regional significance. A permanent memorial exhibition is located in the house of M. P. Kuzakova, where I. V. Dzhugashvili lived during his second exile. It is devoted to the history of political exile and to Stalin's stay in Solvychegodsk. The museum was opened in 1934 in honor of the 55th anniversary of the leader of the peoples. The domestic setting in which Stalin stayed has been preserved. The house is characteristic of early 20th-century architecture. Since 1906 the landlady rented the front part of the house as an apartment for exiles. Participants and leaders of all of Russia's revolutionary movements resided in Solvychegodsk during their exile. Visitors to the museum can take a fascinating walk through the history of political exile in the town — from Gannibal to Marxist revolutionaries.
