Museum of Memory of Internationalist Soldiers
About museum
For more than 30 years a Museum of Memory of Internationalist Soldiers has been operating in Chelyabinsk, established on the initiative of those who served in the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. In 1988 the first hall was opened here, and in 2001 the reconstruction of the hall dedicated to the Afghan War began. In 2004 that hall was opened, and in 2005, by May 9, a second hall dedicated to the Great Patriotic War was opened. Four years later a hall dedicated to the North Caucasus was opened. In 2017 the museum came under the authority of the City Administration and became a structural subdivision of the Center for Historical and Cultural Heritage of Chelyabinsk. In 2018, after the re-exposition of one of the halls, the museum ranked among the top three in the All-Russian competition for the best regional military-historical museum. Today guided tours, off-site sessions and exhibitions are held here, as well as festivals of military-patriotic song. For its achievements the museum has repeatedly been awarded honorary diplomas and letters of appreciation by various administrations.
