Ostrolensky Settlement Museum
About museum
The Ostrolensky settlement is the birthplace of three heroes: E. A. Bikbov; N. N. Vasilyev, a Hero of the Soviet Union and a Hero of Socialist Labour; and V. S. Baykin. The founder and first director of the Ostrolensky settlement museum was the local historian Ivan Alekseevich Vasilyev. Until 2005, the museum's exhibitions were housed in an old Cossack house, which contained more than 1,500 exhibits, including an archaeological collection. In 2005 the museum suffered a fire and only a few exhibits could be saved. Currently the museum is being restored thanks to the efforts of local residents and local historians. Museum staff are gradually restoring documents and exhibits. The new exhibitions are located on the 2nd floor of the House of Culture building, in a hall with a total area of 88 sq. m. Now the Ostrolensky settlement museum is coming back to life thanks to the efforts of local residents and local historians.
