V. E. Meyerhold Museum-Apartment
About museum
The house that houses the V. E. Meyerhold museum-apartment was built in 1928 to a design by I. Rerberg in the Constructivist style. The apartment was home not only to Meyerhold but also to Rerberg, as well as A. Ktorov, V. Popova, S. Giazintova, I. Bersenev, the Skryabin sisters and other prominent theatre figures. In 1991 the museum was opened by Maria Alekseevna Valentey, Meyerhold's granddaughter. With the help of items found in the study and with great effort it was possible to restore the appearance of the apartment as it was in 1934. In that same year the play 'The Lady of the Camellias' by A. Dumas fils, with Z. N. Raikh in the lead role, was staged. In addition, the GosTIM collection was preserved in the museum, which made it possible to organize exhibitions dedicated to Meyerhold's life and work, as well as to a wide range of artistic issues. In 2009 a new exhibition, 'Meyerhold - the Actor. The Actor in Meyerhold's Theatre,' was opened, including more than 500 exhibits and illuminating the relationship between director and actor.
