I.D. Sytin Museum-Apartment
About museum
The I.D. Sytin museum-apartment is located in the center of Moscow — Ivan Sytin (1851–1934) lived here with his family from 1928 to 1934. It is a memorial space dedicated to a well-known Russian educator of the early 20th century and a museum of culture at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries. Sytin excelled in his work in education and the printing industry in Russia. The museum displays unique publications, household items and furniture, artistic jubilee addresses, paintings and sculptures, the Sytin family archive and other exhibits. The idea to create the museum arose in the 1960s–1970s among Ivan Sytin's children, and in 2016 it was transferred to the State Museum — Cultural Center “Integration” named after N. A. Ostrovsky. Today the museum-apartment presents more than 1,400 printed publications, 44 artistic jubilee addresses, 62 household items and pieces of furniture, 22 works of painting and sculpture, and over 400 archival items from the Sytin family collection. Visitors can experience the atmosphere of an old Moscow apartment of the 20th century and the urban culture of that era.
