Dagestan Carpet and Decorative-Applied Arts Museum
About museum
The "Carpet and Decorative-Applied Arts" Museum is located in a 19th-century Armenian building designed by the writer and democrat G. Sundukyan. The museum exhibits items typical of Derbent and Dagestan from the 19th–20th centuries: ceramics, copper-chased utensils, carpets, woodcarving, and silverware. In addition, construction of the Church of the Holy Savior began in 1860 and was completed in 1871. The church was consecrated in 1872, and in 1888 a bell tower was added to it with donations from local resident Ovanes Panuntsev. The upper part of the building was built with funds from the merchant Sergei Kachkachev. The bell tower is topped with an octagonal spire covered with sheet copper.
