Museum of the History of the Fishing Industry of Dagestan

Branch of the National Museum of Dagestan named after A. Taho-Godi, known as the Museum of the History of the Fishing Industry of Dagestan, is listed in the World Register of Museums. During a visit, visitors can learn how the Caspian Sea appeared on Claudius Ptolemy's maps, about the presumed outlines of the sea in the 10th–12th centuries according to the maps of the Arab geographers Istakhri and Idrisi, and about the earliest accounts of the traveler Afanasy Nikitin, who visited the Caspian in 1466–1472. Visitors will also learn about the stages of development of the fishing industry from the 19th century to modern sectors, as well as about the famous fishing industrialists Vorobyov and Tagiev. The museum features a "Sea Corner" where visitors can see maritime tools and the interior of a fishing industry worker's house from the early 20th century. Opened in 2001, the museum has more than 2,350 exhibits.
