The Museum of Police History of the Cultural Center of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region was opened on November 10, 1977 in the historic building of the former Kalashnikov Grain Exchange, built in 1906. The exhibition occupies five halls with a total area of 960 sq. m. It displays authentic documents and original artifacts reflecting the history of St. Petersburg's militia and police. The exhibition features biographies of famous detectives and their achievements, counterfeiting, high‑profile scams, juvenile crime, contract killings, apartment burglaries and thefts of valuables from art museums. Also on view are examples of weapons and uniforms used by personnel, and combat awards of fallen heroes. The museum includes a gallery of names dedicated to distinguished police officers who died in combat and in the line of duty.
