Vladikavkaz City History Museum
About museum
For over a hundred years our city, Vladikavkaz, has been distinguished by a distinctive building housing the City History Museum, located at the intersection of Kirov and Revolyutsii streets. The museum building was constructed in the Art Nouveau style to a design by the well-known architect E. Deskubesa and belonged to the publisher S. Kazarov. Various newspapers and magazines were published there, and well-known writers and political figures also worked there. In 1940 a historical-revolutionary museum dedicated to S. Kirov and G. Ordzhonikidze was opened here, and in 1994 the Vladikavkaz City History Museum was established. The ceremonial reopening of the museum after its most recent reconstruction and renovation took place on February 14, 2013. The museum presents exhibitions on various topics: the founding of the Vladikavkaz fortress, the incorporation of Ossetia into Russia, Vladikavkaz during the Great Patriotic War, the periodical press of Vladikavkaz in the early 20th century, and Vladikavkaz in the works of writers, poets, and artists. A visit to the museum provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Vladikavkaz's history and culture.
