Belorechensk City Museum
About museum
Almost 30 years ago, war and labor veterans organized the district club 'Revolutionary, Combat and Labor Glory' in the city of Belorechensk. In 1981 a museum was opened on a voluntary basis and was given district status. Until 1983 it was headed by Vasily Semyonovich Mironov, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War. After his death the museum fell into neglect, and during repairs to the House of Culture many exhibits were lost. In 1988 Galina Alekseevna Morozkina was appointed director of the museum and carried out many years of work to revive local history activities and to secure premises for the museum. In 1995 it was reopened after renovation for visitors on the eve of the 50th anniversary of Victory Day. Museum staff conducted active research, collecting, and educational work, as a result of which the collection grew from 189 exhibits to 5,300. In 2006 the museum was granted the status of a municipal institution, and at present the museum's holdings contain over 10,166 exhibits.
