Alexander Nevsky Lavra Museum-Repository of Antiquities
About museum
Additionally, the museum offers various cultural and historical programs and exhibitions.
In 2013 the Alexander Nevsky Lavra Museum was re-established after an almost 90-year hiatus. Its predecessor can rightly be called the Lavra's Repository of Antiquities, created in 1910 and containing more than 1,500 exhibits, which included both ancient church buildings and memorial items associated with Peter I and other members of the ruling dynasty. However, in 1922 the Repository was closed during a campaign to confiscate church valuables. The museum's re-establishment was timed to coincide with the Lavra's 300th anniversary. In early 2017 a new exhibition was opened in the historic premises of the monastery sacristy. Here visitors can view ecclesiastical antiquities, icons and religious paintings, church vestments and liturgical objects, decorative and applied arts, historical documents and photographs. Additionally, the museum offers various cultural and historical programs and exhibitions.
