V.P. Groshev Museum of Wooden Architecture
About museum
The museum was founded in 1997 by Vladimir Pavlovich Groshev — a professor, Doctor of Economics, former rector of the Plekhanov Academy, and president of the Academy of Management and Market.
Vladimir Pavlovich was in love with these places and the tranquil Meshchera nature and founded the Interregional School of Masters in Lunkino, where young people could learn local crafts. Wood has always been the primary material for handicrafts in this region, so students and their mentors mainly worked with it. Soon the first artistic crafts appeared, which became the basis of the museum's current collection.
Today the museum complex includes 3 buildings, an active play complex "Meshchera Tale", a recreation area, a park with sculptures, a souvenir shop, an old communal house, a mini-zoo and even a functioning church.
The museum has many exhibits representing dozens of woodcarving styles, models made using root carving — a type of work with wood's natural form — and other unique items.
