IrGTU Museum of Military Glory
About museum
In 2004 the Gatchina Veterans' Council took the initiative to create a new local history museum to acquaint visitors with the city's history and its inhabitants, past and present. The name 'Museum of the City of Gatchina' reflects this focus, and the museum team's exhibition work makes it clearer. In 2006 the museum was allocated space at 25th October Avenue, building 18. After a major renovation, on November 22, 2009 the museum opened its doors to visitors. This was a milestone for the city, and since then the museum's collections have been steadily supplemented with family photographs and heirlooms. The main exhibition introduces visitors to the pre-Petrine period, the development of the city during the reign of Paul I, and the life of Gatchina's residents in the 19th-20th centuries. The museum frequently hosts exhibitions, lectures, conferences, themed concerts and film screenings. It also runs classes for schoolchildren on the history of their hometown and region, and is home to the amateur photographers' club 'MIG' and the film club 'Lilac'.
