Kolya Vasin's Beatles Museum
About museum
The history of the Museum began in the distant 1960s, when The Beatles' music penetrated the USSR and drove thousands of ordinary Russian people crazy. The brightest and most unusual of them — Kolya Vasin — began at that time to collect artefacts related to the Liverpool quartet, a pursuit he continued throughout his life.
In the 1990s the museum and, at the same time, Kolya Vasin's apartment moved to Pushkinskaya 10. Gradually people from St. Petersburg and Beatles fans from all over Russia began to flock to it.
This place was repeatedly visited by many renowned artists and musicians of the city. Guests of Kolya included Boris Grebenshchikov, Viktor Tsoi, Mike Naumenko, Andrey Makarevich, Sergey Kuryokhin, Mikhail Boyarsky, Yuri Shevchuk, Sergey "Chizh" Chigrakov, Sergey Kovalsky, Yuliy Rybakov, Tatyana Baranova and many others.
The museum was maintained and expanded thanks to the kindness of its owner: you could drop in and receive a recording of any Beatles album completely free! Caring and grateful fans also brought something to Kolya in return.
An active educational program was run at the museum: Kolya toured the world giving lectures, and together with his musician friends organized several major Beatles concerts each year. Kolya dreamed of building a Temple of Love, Peace and Music in the name of John Lennon — and he built it in his heart.
After the tragic passing of the museum's founder and inspirer, by joint decision of the Council of the Art Center "Pushkinskaya-10" and the heirs of Nikolai (Kolya) Vasin the museum premises were transferred to the community of Beatles fans in Saint Petersburg, who not only preserved the exhibits carefully collected over more than 60 years, but also continually add new items to the collection. Plans include expanding the museum and offering regular tours, lectures and concerts, as well as creating a wide-access The Beatles Space. We want to officially recognize Saint Petersburg as the capital of Russian Beatlemania: on the birthdays of members of The Beatles their music is played by the largest number of bands in the world, which should become a Guinness World Record.
