About museum
The Moscow Archaeology Museum offers a unique opportunity to learn about the life and culture of ancient Moscow. The museum attracts many visitors and offers interesting tours and programs. Located in the historic city center 7 m below ground in an underground pavilion on the site of large-scale archaeological excavations carried out in 1993–1996, it provides insight into the medieval capital and the development of the area of today's Manezhnaya Square. The exhibits include general information on archaeological research methods. The museum presents the material culture of Moscow and the Moscow region from the Paleolithic to the 19th century. In the central part of the exhibition are the abutments of the Voskresensky (Resurrection) Bridge from the 17th–18th centuries, as well as everyday household items and ecclesiastical objects.
