About museum
The Mordovian Republican United Local History Museum named after I. D. Voronin is the heart of the modern public space. It was opened on November 29, 1918 and holds more than 128,000 storage units, including written sources, visual materials, archaeological, ethnographic, numismatic and other collections. The museum displays rare household items, weapons, leather and wood crafts, traditional clothing of various peoples, and porcelain and faience wares. Here you can find comprehensive information about the history of Saransk from its founding, as well as sights and artifacts from the 18th–19th centuries. In 2017 the museum moved to a new modern building, which houses departments of ethnography, archaeology, pre-revolutionary history, 20th-century history of the Mordovian region, two exhibition halls and a Children's Museum. The museum hosts tours, lectures, exhibitions, scientific conferences and publishes catalogs.
