Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya Memorial Museum
About museum
Near Ruza, just 30 km away, lies the village of Petritschevo, known worldwide. More than half a century ago a young Muscovite, Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya, stepped into immortality here. She was in a partisan detachment tasked with setting fires to guide the army to the locations of the fascists. The detachment commander Krainev and Zoya entered Petritschevo. They were to set fire to a house and a stable, but Zoya did not return from the mission. The whole country first learned about her from P. Lidov's essay 'Tanya'. A monument to Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya was erected at the 86th km of the Minsk Highway, and a memorial museum was also created. Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya's name became a symbol of heroism, courage and patriotism of Soviet youth. However, in the early 1990s materials appeared in the press that cast doubt on Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya's feat. But most historians confirm the account of her heroism.
