Summer Palace of Peter I
About museum
The Summer Palace is a landmark building of Saint Petersburg, built by Peter I and reflecting his personality. In the 19th century it served as a country residence for high-ranking officials, and in 1903 an exhibition dedicated to Peter I was opened there in commemoration of the city's 200th anniversary. In 2004 the Summer Palace became part of the State Russian Museum. From 2015 to 2017 the building underwent a comprehensive restoration that recreated the atmosphere of an early 18th-century palace. The museum's displays include Peter I's clothing, furniture, paintings and engravings, as well as decorative and applied art objects from the Petrine era. The Summer Palace remains a unique example of Peter I's architectural work and still stands as an illustration of his life.
