About museum
Kursk State Regional Museum of Archaeology was founded in 1991 as a branch of the Kursk Regional Museum of Local Lore, and on August 12, 1993 it was reorganized into a state regional museum. Previously the museum was housed in the building of the Lower Trinity Church; it is now located in one of the preserved 18th-century revenue houses, known as the 'Palace of the Romodanovsky Boyars'. The museum's exhibition comprises 7 halls dedicated to the history of the Kursk region from the Stone Age to the 18th century. Since 2012 the museum has featured the exhibition 'Gold of the Huns', displaying a unique collection from a burial in Fatezhsky District that was looted by treasure hunters. The museum's holdings include more than 140,000 items, many of which are of not only regional but also national significance. The museum offers guided tours, lectures, games, quests, folklore festivals, large public events and exhibitions that attract many visitors.
