Kumylzhensky District Historical and Local Lore Museum
About museum
In 1983 the Kumylzhensky Museum was founded; it became the heir and transmitter of the rich cultural and historical heritage of Cossack culture. It is located in an old kuren house built in 1903, which is an architectural monument of local significance. Its original layout and facade have been preserved, along with old brickwork, a wooden staircase, and a unique molded ceiling. Since August 2009 the museum has had 10 exhibition halls where one can experience several turbulent centuries of the "Wild Field", trace the life paths of ancestors and explore the Cossacks' past, and visit the only "lithotheque" (stone repository) in the region. All of this helps to better understand their way of life, domestic patterns and archaic times.
