The State Military-Historical and Natural Museum-Reserve Kulikovo Field was established in 1996 in memory of one of the greatest battles of the Middle Ages – the Battle of Kulikovo. The victory at Kulikovo Field became a crucial milestone in the formation of Russian statehood, the creation of a unified state centered in Moscow, and the consolidation of Russian national consciousness. The courage and valor of the united Russian troops were the cause of the epochal victory that began the revival of Russia. September 21 (September 8 in the Julian calendar) is the Day of Military Glory of Russia. Over a quarter of a century it has become one of the best museums in Russia.
The State Museum-Reserve Kulikovo Field covers an area of 7,556 hectares and is located in the Kimovsky, Kurkinsky and Bogoroditsky districts of the Tula Region. It includes the battlefield, six specially protected natural areas and geobotanical monuments, and 28 archaeological and historical monuments.
The area of the main museum complex Kulikovo Field in the village of Mokhovoe is over 2,000 m2. The museum-reserve's collections comprise more than 120,000 storage units, of which 2,745 items are exhibited in the Kulikovo Field complex.
