About museum
On December 28, 1925 the Syzran Museum opened its first exhibition. That day became the museum's birthday. In 1927 the museum acquired paintings by famous artists N.I. Shishkin, L.K. Savrasov and I.K. Aivazovsky. In the same year an art department was organized. Throughout the war years of 1941–1945 the museum continued to operate.
In 1949 the Museum of Local Lore was renamed the Syzran Local History Museum. The museum's current exhibition is divided into two thematic departments: natural science and historical-ethnographic. The natural science department includes the sections: 'Paleontology', 'Geology', 'Mineralogy', 'Flora and Fauna'. The historical-ethnographic department is presented by the sections: 'Archaeology', 'History of the founding of the city of Syzran', 'Ethnography'. A separate thematic area of the exhibition introduces visitors to the history of the development of the Middle Volga region and the founding of the city of Syzran, which was established by decree of Peter and Ivan Alekseyevich in 1683.
