About museum
In 1923 the Kotel'nich Local History Museum began its activities and since then has served as an educational institution dedicated to promoting local history knowledge. The original exhibition featured items from Anfilov's natural collection. Over the years the museum expanded its displays several times and moved to a new premises on Lenin Street. The building was constructed in the late 19th century in an eclectic style and previously belonged to homeowner Blinova. It was damaged by a fire in 1926 but was restored by 1930. Today the museum's main collection consists of 12,000 items, and the research-supporting collection contains 7,000. In 2012 a hall called 'Urban Estates' was opened on the second floor, presenting the lifestyle of old Kotel'nich.
