Kirov Historical and Local History Museum
About museum
The museum was founded in May 1988 when a building in the city center was allocated for its establishment. The first hall opened on July 7, 1989. The inaugural exhibition was devoted to the art of the outstanding Kirov landscape painter S. E. Kosenkov. In recent years more than 150 art and historical-documentary exhibitions have been held; catalogs and commemorative tickets were issued for them. On August 8, 1993 a local history exhibition was opened, and on May 8, 1995 an exhibition on the history of military events was opened. The museum's collections comprise over 19,000 storage units, including archaeology, written sources, numismatics, photographs, art and others. Since 1992 the Pesochensky Scientific Readings have been held. The Pesochensky archaeological expedition and the military-memorial group "Poisk" (Search), as well as the collectors' club "KDK", operate at the museum. The museum provides visitors with the opportunity to learn about the ancient history of the Pesochensky region and military events.
