About museum
Kabansky Local History Museum named after M. A. Lukyanov was opened on October 10, 1997, and is a structural subdivision of the MAU 'Kabanskaya Central Intersettlement Library'. The museum is housed in an architectural monument of republican significance from the second half of the 19th century, which belonged to the notable merchant Eidelmanov family. The museum's holdings total 2,608 units, of which 987 are in the main collection and 1,621 are scientific and auxiliary. The museum has four halls with various exhibitions dedicated to the people of Baikal, geology, ecology, and other topics. In 2009 a hall of Russian everyday life, 'Russkaya Gornitsa' (Russian parlor), was opened. Museum specialists conduct educational activities, organize exhibitions of artists and masters of decorative and applied arts, and develop new tourist programs for schoolchildren. Tours include visits to museums in neighboring districts and excursions to the sites of former monasteries. The museum employs interactive forms of work and event formats.
