IKM: Historical and Local History Museum of Kirovsk
About museum
On May 1, 1935, a museum was opened dedicated to the life and activities of S. M. Kirov, who made a decisive contribution to the development of the Khibiny region. In 1993 the museum received historical and local-history status, and in 1995 a new hall "Features of the Nature and Ecology of the Khibiny" was opened. The permanent exhibition presents documents, objects and works reflecting the history of the exploration of the Khibiny and the construction of Khibinogorsk. A separate hall is devoted to Kirovsk and its residents during the Great Patriotic War. The museum's main exhibit is the geologists' hut, where the decision about the future of the Khibiny region was made. The museum's collections are continually supplemented with materials on the recent history of the town and its surroundings. The museum's primary audience is schoolchildren, students and visitors.
